From the smallest pony to the largest horse (and the people that love them) our school horses would love to help you realize your equestrian dreams. Fallowfield has 18 school horses that fit the needs of nearly every rider out there. Check them out below and then come for a visit to meet them up close and personal!
Pinkie is a 14 year old Section A Welsh Pony mare. At 10.2h, she's only a little bit taller than our farm's St.Bernard, but she doesn't let her height stand in her way. She loves teaching the smallest riders the ropes and is an excellant jumper of tiny jumps. She is also a star at broom polo and many other mounted games.
Sarris a 12.1 h Section B Welsh Pony mare. Although she's only 6 years old, Sarris loves our youngest riders and is a quiet and safe mount for the most timid of beginners. With two blue eyes, four white stockings and a big white belly spot, Sarris is as flashy as they come. Her show name is Davric Eye Candy and she will helping some new riders get noticed in the walk/trot classes this Spring.
Ripley is a 15.1 h 7 year old Thoroughbred gelding who also took a detour to Fallowfield on the way to the slaughter auction. He is tons of fun to ride and is a favorite of our more advanced riders for his skill over fences.
Caesar is a relatively new addition to our program. This 15 year old Oldenburg/Hannoverian spent most of his life as a trail horse before coming to live with us. A talented horse over fences and on the flat, Caesar is also a big love bug and cannot get enough attention. He is best friends with Frankie, another one of our more advanced level horses.
Pistol is a 15 year old black Quarter Horse gelding. Known for his laid back nature and smooth gaits, he is a favorite among our beginner riders and those looking to learn about English or Western pleasure riding. His ruggedly handsome good looks (particularly his long, flowing mane) will make even a first time cowgirl or cowboy look the part.
At only 4 years old, Sparrow is the youngest horse in our program. A 15.2h Thoroughbred mare, she is sweet and sensitive and is being ridden by some of our more advanced riders as her training progresses. Look for her in the show ring this Spring!
True is an 8 year old, big-boned 14.1 h Appaloosa mare. Known around the barn as the walk/trot champion after having earned a top year end award several years in a row, True also helps out with therapeutic riding, teaching Western pleasure and acting as a calm, sturdy mount for many of our adult beginners. She is also the most comfortable school horse to ride bareback, due to her round barrell and comfortable gaits.
Noah is 16.0 h, 9 year old Oldenburg gelding. Although he loves to canter big courses and snaps his knees to his chin over jumps, he is not above teaching young riders to canter and even filled in during beginner summer camp last year. One of the most accident prone horses on the farm, Noah often recommended as needing to be bubble-wrapped to go outside of his stall.
We saved the best for last with Heidi, our 12 year old 16.1h Percheron/Thoroughbred mare. Known at IEA shows as an "automatic blue ribbon", Heidi is sweet, comfortable and loves being a lesson horse. She is a favorite amongst our adult riders as well.
Classy is an aged 12h Quarter Poiny cross mare and easily one of the best ponies on earth. Classy has taught many children in her years as a lesson horse and continues to enjoy her job. She's done parades and horse shows and has done double duty in our therapeutic riding program. They don't come much better than Classy! In fact, at competitions her "show name" is Teacher's Pet!
When Dingo came to Fallowfield, he was just weaned and was headed to the slaughterhouse. He's come a long way from his rough beginnings and has more personality than nearly any other horse on the farm. Dingo wears many hats and enjoys teaching young riders to canter and jump, as well as being the ultimate pony for mounted games and trail riding. At 13.1h, he might not be the biggest horse on the farm, but as those who have their first 3'6" fences on him can atest, he sure can jump!
Wildfire was born on Assateauge Island and is a 13.3h Chicoteague Pony. He is the backbone of our therapeutic program and despite his "wild" beginnings is probably one of the calmest horses to walk the earth. He also likes showing riders the ropes in the short stirrup division and is a fierce competitor in mounted games despite his generally laid back attitute.
Frankie is a 15 year old, 16.2h Thoroughbred gelding. He spent his previous life as an eventer and dressage horse. He now enjoys his life as an upper level school horse. For advanced riders who want to improve their flat work or jumping skills, he is a real treat to ride. Frankie will be embarking on his new career as an equitation horse this Spring.
Joker, a 14.2 hand 8 year old Quarter Horse gelding is known as Just Foolin' Aroan at horse shows. A character both under saddle and in the barn, Joker likes teaching young riders and smaller adults. Last summer he attended his first cross country schooling day and proved himself over a variety of natural obstacles. Rolex anyone?
Quixote is one of the most beloved horses in our lesson program. With 3 very comfortable gaits and great love for helping his riders learn to become skilled horsemen, no one would ever guess that he began his life as a working cow horse in Oklahoma. Although he is also skilled at the "turn 'n burn" of barrell racing, Quixote has won many ribbons and year end awards in all 3 rings (hunters, jumpers and equitation).
Kat is a 15.2h Dutch Warmblood/Paint cross mare and gives Sarris a run for her money in the flashy department with a lot of "chrome". She is a great horse for those looking to learn the ins and outs of the show ring and is a favorite at IEA and IHSA competitions.
Snickers is a 14 year old Appendix Quarter Horse mare owned by one of our boarders who kindly allows to also be used in the school program. A favorite at IEA and IHSA shows, Snickers is the only horse on the farm to have a tack shop named after her. Check out Snicker's Boutique in Bentleyville for any equipment you might need to learn to ride and then come hold the reins of this (nearly) famous horse!
