Summer Camps

This year, Fallowfield Stables will host three summer day camps.  Our 'Intro to Riding Camp' is for new riders, our 'Advanced Rider Camp' is for riders who want more advanced instruction (must have completed the beginner camp or be currently enrolled in the lesson program).  Camps run Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM, with almost every minute spent in the barn.  From crafts to games to saddle-time, all of our activities are horse-related.

Our Intro to Riding summer camp is for riders ages 4-12. Riders are assessed on their first day and grouped together based on their experience level (although no prior riding experience is necessary).  Riders with no experience learn to mount, dismount, walk, trot and navigate over very low jumps.  More experienced riders will work on their position, become more comfortable with jumping and/or cantering and generally refine their skills.  Everyone will learn about horse grooming, anatomy, veterinary care, hoof care, riding equipment maintenance and much more.  An afternoon snack will be provided, but all campers should bring a bagged lunch. All campers receive a Camp Fallowfield t-shirt or tote bag, a horse care workbook and entry in the Friday Finale demonstration horse show on the last day of camp.  The Friday Final Demo Show will allow riders to demonstrate to their family the riding skills they've learned throughout the week.  The show will begin at 1:30 on Friday afternoon.  Please ask the counselors for the exact time your child's group will be riding.

'Advanced Rider Camp' is for riders already familiar with the basics of horseback riding and looking for more intensive instruction.  This camp is recomended for riders age 8-16.  On the first day of camp, riders will be grouped by experience level and paired with their own horse for the week.  They will learn about all of the aspects of general horse care, as well as how to get their mount looking ready for the show ring.  Riding time will focus on more advanced skills like cantering, jumping courses of fences and lower level dressage.  We'll also have guest lectures from a vet and a farrier.  The camp registration fee includes a Fallowfield T-Shirt or Tote bag, an advanced horse care workbook and entry in the Friday Equitation Challenge Horse Show.  The Equitation Challenge will simulate an equitation final class and will held beginning at 1:30 on Friday afternoon. Riders will compete first both on the flat and over fences, with the top four scoring riders switching horses and rejumping the same course.
